CHARACTER DESIGN
A few thoughts on designing
your character...
Character Design is completely up to you. I want to
be surprised. I want to be amazed. But I also want you to be smart about it.
While I have no restrictions regarding what your creature should look like, I do
have some suggestions.
Make sure your
design is manageable. If you're handling all the details (modeling, setup, etc.)
yourself than you can be as elaborate as you like. But if you're looking for
help, don't expect someone to volunteer to model your 20-headed serpent
creature. No one is going to want to go near that
thing.
Also, think of this as a screen
test. You're designing a creature that will be performing. You want people to
like your character. You want people to want your character. If, for instance,
your animation gets licensed by a cell phone carrier, consider that to be a
commercial for your design. The best thing that could happen is a toy company
sees your performance and loves your creature so much that they want to make an
action figure, vinyl, or stuffed animal out of it. It's totally
possible.
Design your character like an
artist and a capitalist. But also design it for yourself. Make yourself
proud.
